Wilford J. Arbour
With 55 years in the beauty industry, he was born in Toronto, became a U.S. citizen at 19, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After working as a dairy milkman in Detroit, harsh winters prompted him to seek a new career. A chance conversation at a soda fountain led him to beauty school, which he joined in 1959 for $275.
Despite a challenging first client, he persevered and opened his first salon in 1962. He expanded to multiple salons and beauty schools by 1973.
Mr. Arbour later acquired the New Midwest Beauty College and Brighton Institute of Cosmetology, merging them in 1998 under his leadership.
Educating cosmetology Students since 1965
Students at Brighton Institute of Cosmetology acquire essential skills and contemporary techniques in
cosmetology, encompassing haircuts, coloring, styling, chemical treatments, and client consultations. The
Manicure program provides comprehensive training in both manicures and pedicures, while the Esthetician
program is dedicated to advanced skin care practices, including hair removal and facials. Through a combination
of theoretical classroom instruction and hands-on practical experience, our programs prepare students for
successful careers in the beauty industry. We ensure compliance with all state curriculum requirements for each
program offered at Brighton Institute of Cosmetology.
